The truth is out there! Britain has its own real-life X Files team, investigating reports of the paranormal.

Buried in the Ministry of Defence, in an anonymous office overlooking Whitehall, two Government agents pore over buff coloured files, examining sightings of flying saucers and visits by aliens to our planet.

They are the British equivalent of TV’s Mulder and Scully. A pair of civil servants, generally seen as more at home with cups and saucers than flying saucers, push back the frontiers of human knowledge in search for the truth. In the corridors of power the team works under the title Secretariat (Air Staff) 2A MOD.

But in typical Yes Minister style, their work is far from glamorous. Unlike the dynamic TV team, they don’t go out in designer suits, stay in motels, invade secret army bases or confront crazed vampires, aliens and assorted weirdos.

The X Files which are the work of 2A are delivered everyday to their desks, and together they sift through endless reports of UFO sightings and the paranormal.

The Ministry of Defence says it receives 200 to 300 reports of what they call "unexplained sightings" a year, which all go to the 2A team. But a Ministry spokesman said yesterday: "We do not have a special office investigating UFOs. This is nothing to do with little green men."

But the rest of the Ministry statement is as mysterious as a UFO sighting.

Its adds: "If people write to us, as they do everyday, with sightings of something of what they believe is unusual then someone has to look into it and reply. This is the work of the secretarial team. Yes many of the reports are about UFOs and other odd sightings, but we are definitely not investigating them."

The 2A operation is revealed in the latest issue of RAF News. It is the first recorded public acknowledgement that the team exists.

An Asteroid twice the size of the one that killed the dinosaurs could be on a collision course with the Earth.

Should Eros, a chunk of rock nearly 15 miles long, hit us, the effect would be catastrophic. When an object half as big hit the Earth 65 million years ago, it created a huge crater and hurled so much debris into the atmosphere that the climate was changed, vegetation died, and the dinosaurs disappeared.

Panic would be premature, however. There is "no significant danger" that Eros will collide with us in the next 100,000 years. On a much longer time scale, however, such an impact is quite likely.

The calculations have been made by an Italian-French team, led by Dr Paolo Farinelli of the University of Pisa. Working out the future movements of asteroids is not entirely straightforward because on a prolonged timescale they are chaotic - tiny changes in starting conditions can make a big difference to the end result.

Close encounters with other planets can alter the orbits and inexact knowledge of what the orbit is makes long-term prediction impossible. Even the computer programme used to make the calculations can effect the result. So the team, reporting in Nature, has not attempted an exact prediction but has used two computers to simulate a range of eight possible evaluations of the orbit.

Over the next 100,000 years or so all these simulations show Eros behaving normally, its orbit crossing that of Mars but not coming worryingly close to Earth. But over longer times, three of the eight orbits simulated to evolve into Earth-crossers and one produces a collision with the Earth just over one million years from now.

The researchers say that they are not predicting such an outcome, merely showing that it is far from impossible and confirming that over the 4.5 billion years life of the Earth, such catastrophic impacts are not uncommon.

Pope John Paul II has requested copies of the Hubble Telescope photographs.

Washington - NASA scientists are studying hundreds of amazing images sent to Earth by the Hubble Space Telescope - and will soon announce the pictures are the first-ever photographs of Heaven.

That’s the word from author and researcher Marcia Masson, who quoted highly placed NASA insiders as having said that the telescope beamed the photos back to the command centre at Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md., on March 26^th.

The pictures clearly show a vast white city floating eerily in the blackness of space.

And the expert quoted NASA sources as saying that the city is definitely Heaven "because life as we know it couldn’t possibly exist in icy, airless space."

"This is it - this is the proof we’ve been waiting for," Dr Masson told reporters.

"Through an enormous stroke of luck, NASA aimed the Hubble Telescope at precisely the right time to capture these images on film. I’m not particularly religious, but I don’t doubt that somebody or something influenced the decision to aim the telescope at that particular area of space."

"Was that someone or something God Himself? Given the vastness of the universe, and all the places NASA could have targeted for study, that would certainly appear to be the case."

"NASA spokesmen declined to comment on the author’s report "pending further analysis of the photographs received on March 26^th."

In spite of official silence, agency insiders conceded that NASA "has discovered something that might alter the future of all mankind."

They also confirmed that President Bill Clinton and Vice President Al Gore have taken a keen personal interest in the photographs and have requested daily briefings. Dr. Masson said: "The Hubble Space Telescope was designed to photograph images as far away as the edge of the universe but a lens flaw prevented it from doing so until shuttle astronauts corrected the defect during a recent mission.

"When they finished their work, the telescope trained it’s enormous eye on the outer reaches of the universe."

"From what I understand, the first images it received were nothing more than kaleidoscope bursts of colour and light."

"As adjustments were made, and the focus sharpened, NASA analysts couldn’t believe their eyes."

"After checking and re-checking the data, they concluded that the images were authentic. They also theorised that the city couldn’t possibly be inhabited by life as we know it."

"The only logical explanation was that the city was inhabited by the souls of the dead. As one of my sources put it, ‘We found where God lives.’"

It has been rumoured that the space agency has forwarded photographs to Pope John Paul II at his request, but Vatican sources will neither confirm or deny it.

Dr. Masson, who obtained copies of a single photograph from her NASA sources, says the space agency’s next move "will be most revealing."

"This is a chance for NASA to come clean with the public and tell us everything it knows," she said.

On a mild October night with a thin rain falling from a moonless sky, Michael Crane, a giant of a man standing 6ft 7in sat on his favourite windswept promontory overlooking a grey sea at West Sussex. Mr Crane cannot remember quite how long he sat there before two small, silver creatures swept him up, with a stupendous and irresistible force, 1,500 feet into the air. He was gone for two days.

Mr Crane is quite clear about the height he reached; he could see the familiar outline of the coast beneath him. Moreover, he had served in the Brigade of Guards and learned how to set the sights of guns. He was used to estimating distances. But he knows the length of time he went missing only because his wife noted his absence with consternation and disbelief.

He will tell you that he had gone to the coast at 11.30 that night 18 months ago, riding his bicycle the quarter of a mile or so from his thatched cottage, in order to unwind. His marriage - which has recently ended in divorce - was going through a turbulent spell. He often went to this peaceful spot; gazing out to sea was his favourite therapy.

Mr Crane, 59, is not a fanciful man. He served in the Army for nine years. Then, using his immense stature and presence, he began a career as an actor and stuntman which he still pursues.

He says: "I was sitting on a bench looking out to sea when I sensed movement behind me. It is difficult to describe the feeling, which was like a slight magnetism followed by a sensation of pins and needles in both hands.

I looked to my right and saw a little silvery person, about four and a half feet tall, without facial features except eyes. The eyes were predominantly black, with white in the corners. The face showed no expression but it moved like a human’s. I sensed no evil; actually it seemed benign. I was not afraid.

Then I looked to my left and saw another metallic-coloured person. There were no words, no sounds. Then an unimaginable force propelled me into the air. The little people swept me up and there seemed to be a huge force behind me, thrusting me upwards. At about 1,500 feet we came to a large, triangular door in a huge, black craft.

It bore no resemblance to my perception of a spaceship. I could not see its shape or size but I knew it was huge. The door opened with a chuffing noise. That was the only sound I heard. Inside, we went down a corridor which could have been 100 yards long. Then I was lying face down on a sort of silvery bench.

It is difficult to describe something that is not of our world, but although it did not look it, it was in fact very soft and extremely comfortable. I felt completely relaxed. I don’t think I was drugged but I must have drifted in and out of consciousness.

I recall opening my eyes and seeing, 30 or 40 feet in front of me, all sorts of strange levers at different angles. They were mat silver with black handles. Everything was clean; I would say sterile. There was no smell. I felt content.

Sometime later I woke up again and saw about 20 feet above me, a silver ceiling. The next thing I recall was sitting on the bench. I do not remember coming down. It was broad daylight. Now I was facing away from the sea. I was dry, but my bicycle, propped up against the picnic bench, was soaking wet from the rain. When I touched it, it was full of static electricity. I got a shock.

I noticed, too, that my leather coat had a hole hacked in it, as if by a knife. There was no corresponding mark on my body. I have no explanation for it. Some days later my bicycle was stolen. It reappeared two days after, outside my back gate. I mention this only because it is strange."

Had Michael Crane merely experienced a graphic dream on that isolated spot? He believes not. There are too many inexplicable anomalies. He says: "When I came back, my first thought was: ‘Why the bloody hell am I still here? I should have been home hours ago. I’d better get back.’ I had no conception of the time that passed. I only knew that when I had last been conscious of the hour it was dark, and now it was daylight.

Actually it was four o’clock in the afternoon. I felt terribly hungry and thirsty, but not particularly tired. I arrived home and my wife was furious. She accused me of having stayed with another woman. I said: ‘I’ve been sitting in the field by the sea.’ She said: ‘You can’t have been. You’ve been away for two days.’ I wondered: ‘Is this fact or fantasy?’ I did not tell her then what had happened. I feared she might think I had gone mad."

Later Mr Crane detected evidence that a semen sample had been taken during his lost hours. "Although I have no memory of a sexual encounter, I can only surmise that during my time in the ‘spaceship’ the creatures took a sample. I have no other explanation to offer. I had not had sexual intercourse."

Mr Crane takes you to the lonely spot from which he was spirited away. He tells his story matter-of-factly, making no extravagant claims. He does not use the words ‘alien’ or ‘abduction.’ He does not believe that the extraordinary experience has changed his life irrevocably or significantly.

He says: "When I was taken away, I did not make any assumptions. I just seemed willed to accept what happened. I knew that no harm would be done to me. I was under the influence of a power that was impossible to resist."

Not unnaturally, Michael Crane was initially too afraid of ridicule to divulge his experience. For a few weeks he kept it to himself. Then he decided he had a duty to inform an official body. He contacted BUFORA (the British UFO Research Association) and his experience was taken seriously. He disclosed what had happened to a few close friends and now his former wife; none were disbelieving.

Moreover, a friend who walks her dogs daily at 8am past the spot where Michael Crane had sat on that October night, looked across during the hours when he was ‘abducted’. She saw his bicycle. But Mr Crane had not been there.

"Citizens of this Earth, we are not alone."

With those dramatic words, President John F. Kennedy intended to inform the American public and the world that the U.S. government had made contact with aliens from deep space.

But before he could deliver the speech on Nov. 22, 1963, the beloved leader was cut down by an assassin’s bullets.

That is the astonishing claim of JFK researcher Professor Lawrence Merrick, author of an upcoming blockbuster book ‘Killing The Messenger: The Death of JFK.’

"We now know the real reason why President Kennedy was assassinated," declared Prof. Merrick of Cambridge, Mass.

It appears that some individuals within our government were determined to maintain the secrecy surrounding captured UFOs - and decided to silence the President before he could speak."

Prof. Merrick says he began a search for the undelivered speech after learning the President’s original hand-written notes had fallen into the hands of Texas Governor John Connally - who was riding in JFK’s death car that fateful day in Dallas.

"I was surprised to find that Kennedy handed Connally the speech, which was on 5in x 7in note cards, to look at, shortly before the motorcade set off at 12:55 p.m.," said Prof. Merrick.

The Governor himself was badly wounded in the gun attack.

"Connally became terrified for his own life," said the historian. "He placed bloodstained index cards in a safety deposit box with orders to a trusted aid that the contents not be revealed until after his death."

When Gov. Connally died in 1993, the aid removed the cards and held on to them.

Last year Prof. Merrick tracked down the aide, who passed the speech on with a guarantee of anonymity.

Prof. Merrick was flabbergasted when he read the cards. He took them to five handwriting analysts, who agreed the speech was "95 percent certain" to be Kennedy’s.

"There’s no doubt in my mind that just days before his trip to Dallas, JFK met with his predecessor President Dwight D. Eisenhower as well as his brother Attorney General Robert Kennedy," notes Prof. Merrick.

"I believe he was seeking their advice on whether to go public with the facts about UFOs. Apparently, they agreed - but other government insiders aware of UFOs did not. They thought that to tell the Americans about aliens would turn our society upside down - and they were willing to kill to prevent it. No President since has had the courage to tell the American people the truth about UFOs. I hope now that President Clinton will give the speech that should have been delivered 30 years ago."

Here Is What The President Should Have Said:

My fellow Americans, people of the world, today we set forth on a journey into a new era. One age, the childhood of mankind, is ending and another age is about to begin.

The journey of which I speak is full of unknowable challenges, but I believe that all our yesterdays, all the struggles of the past, have uniquely prepared our generation to prevail.

In the year 1947 our military forces recovered from the dry New Mexico desert the remains of an aircraft of unknown origin. Science soon determined that this vehicle came from the far reaches of outer space. Since that time our government has made contact with the creators of that spacecraft.

Though this news may sound fantastic - and indeed, terrifying - I ask that you not greet it with undue fear or pessimism. I assure you, as your President, that these beings mean us no harm.

Rather, they promise to help our nation overcome the common enemies of all mankind - tyranny, poverty, disease, war.

We have determined that they are not foes, but friends. Together with them we can create a better world. I cannot tell you that there will be no stumbling or missteps on the road ahead.

But I believe that we have found the true destiny of the people of this great land: To lead the world into a glorious future.

In the coming days, weeks and months, you will learn about these visitors, why they are here and why our leaders have kept their presence a secret from you for so long.

I ask you to look to the future not with timidity but with courage. Because we can achieve in our time the ancient vision of peace on Earth and prosperity for all humankind.

Here are just a few of Tim’s amazing "little green men" revelations...

A US jet, scrambled to intercept a UFO over Japan, disappeared in front of the eyes of horrified radar operators. After watching his missiles explode harmlessly before even reaching the flying saucer, the pilot screamed: "They’ve turned on some sort of beam and they’re turning...they are coming after me." The two blips on the radar screen became one. The pilot and plane were never seen again.

In 1983 two US Air Force jets were scrambled from the NATO base at Incirlik in Turkey and were seen by witnesses circling a much larger UFO before all three headed out to sea. Only one jet returned.

University professor Dr Robert Jacobs filmed the test firing of an Atlas missile which was destroyed by a UFO. Watching the film he said:

"Another object flew into the frame from left to right. It approached the warhead package and manoeuvred round it...at 18,000 miles an hour." The "flying saucer" then fired four flashes of bright light at the missile, which tumbled out of its orbit.

Cosmonaut G M Manakov, orbiting earth in the Russian Mir space station said,: "I saw an unidentified flying object...it was a great silvery sphere. "There was a clean, clear sky. It is difficult to determine, but the object was at a great altitude over the earth, perhaps 20-30 kilometres."

Two UFOs were reported to have hovered over the Baikonur Space Centre in Kazakhstan for 14 seconds. According to Good: "The following day bolts and rivets were found which allegedly had been ‘sucked out’ of the support towers, causing welded sections to come apart." Thousands of panes of glass were smashed in the complex, knocking the entire cosmodrome out of action for two weeks.

Tim says: "I believe man’s progress on earth has been monitored by beings whose technological and mental resources make ours look primitive and theirs supernatural by comparison."

But he claims governments have covered up UFO sightings to prevent panic. He adds: "We are entitled to know some of the truth at least."

On his Tuesday early AM radio talk show, Art Bell corrected the announcement that was made yesterday by author Dannion Brinkley concerning the exposure of the government UFO cover-up. Ex-astronaut Gordon Cooper, not Neil Armstrong, will be appearing on the Paranormal Borderline TV show.

The show will air on United Paramount Networks (UPN) at 9 PM Eastern time on Tuesday, May 7. Cooper is expected to say that the government has been lying to the public about the existence of extraterrestrial spacecraft visiting Earth and that he has seen them. This statement will not carry the same explosive weight as it would if made by Neil Armstrong, but it still has the potential to cause major upheaval. Art Bell stated on his radio talk show that he had contacted a UPN spokesman who confirmed that Cooper will be on the show and also confirmed the content of Cooper’s statements.

One of the original Mercury Astronauts and the last American to fly in space alone. On May 15, 1963 he shot into space in a Mercury capsule for a 22 orbit journey around the world. During the final orbit, Major Gordon Cooper told the tracking station at Muchea (near Perth Australia) that he could see a glowing, greenish object ahead of him quickly approaching his capsule. The UFO was real and solid, because it was picked up by Muchea’s tracking radar.

Cooper’s sighting was reported by the National Broadcast Company, which was covering the flight step by step; but when Cooper landed, reporters were told that they would not be allowed to question him about the UFO sighting.

Major Cooper was a firm believer in UFOs. Ten years earlier, in 1951 he had sighted a UFO while piloting an F-86 Sabrejet over Western Germany. They were metallic, saucer-shaped discs at considerable altitude and could out-manoeuvre all American fighter planes.

Major Cooper also testified before the United Nations:

"I believe that these extra-terrestrial vehicles and their crews are visiting this planet from other planets... Most astronauts were reluctant to discuss UFOs."

"I did have occasion in 1951 to have two days of observation of many flights of them, of different sizes, flying in fighter formation, generally from east to west over Europe."

And according to a taped interview by J. L. Ferrando, Major Cooper said:

"For many years I have lived with a secret, in a secrecy imposed on all specialists in astronautics. I can now reveal that every day, in the USA, our radar instruments capture objects of form and composition unknown to us. And there are thousands of witness reports and a quantity of documents to prove this, but nobody wants to make them public.

Why? Because authority is afraid that people may think of God knows what kind of horrible invaders. So the password still is: We have to avoid panic by all means."

"I was furthermore a witness to an extraordinary phenomenon, here on this planet Earth. It happened a few months ago in Florida. There I saw with my own eyes a defined area of ground being consumed by flames, with four indention’s left by a flying object which had descended in the middle of a field. Beings had left the craft (there were other traces to prove this). They seemed to have studied topography, they had collected soil samples and, eventually, they returned to where they had come from, disappearing at enormous speed...I happen to know the authority did just about everything to keep this incident from the press and TV, in fear of a panicky reaction from the public."

This story seems to be changing by the minute though - so stand by!

Vampire hunters, Ufologists and experts on the sexual aspects of ancient British fertility religions met on Sunday to debate whether people really landed on the moon and whether alien abductions are real. The 1,200 delegates also sat through lectures on mermaids, reincarnation, ghosts and the evolution of the vampire at the "Unconventional’’ sponsored by the Fortean Times, Britain’s journal of strange phenomena. "It’s nice to meet our readers and have a forum for cross-disciplinary discussion,’’ said Fortean co-editor Paul Sieveking. Now in its 23rd year, the Fortean Times is dedicated to the work of Charles Fort, a U.S. philosopher who said most scientists tended to formulate theories according to their own beliefs rather than the rules of evidence and that inconvenient data was ignored. "The Fortean attitude can be applied to virtually anything—which is one of temporary acceptance rather than committed belief,’’ Sieveking said. Some delegates argued that the U.S. National Aeronautic and Space Administration (NASA) had "faked’’ still and television photographs of the U.S. moon landings and, by implication, the moon landings themselves. "There is no proof (of the U.S. Apollo moon landings) other than what NASA tells us,’’ said David Percy, a professional photographer, who told delegates that close scrutiny of photographs taken by astronauts on the moon "indicated’’ they may have been manufactured on film sets on Earth. "I was a sceptic but now I do believe there was a cover-up,’’ said one photographer after listening to Percy’s lecture. Delegates also watched film footage supposed to show the autopsy of a six-fingered and toed alien visitor in 1947. "I can’t believe 1,000 people are sitting in silence watching this rubbish,’’ said one sceptic who left the lecture hall half way through the presentation. Many of the delegates bought T-shirts with the alien’s pre-autopsy head embossed on the front. Members of the Raelian Movement, who handed out leaflets to all delegates as they entered the "Unconvention’’ doors, hope to build an "embassy’’ for extraterrestrials, who would otherwise "`not have any official channels to use to establish contact’’ with Earthlings. For six pounds ($9), the Raelians will reveal what a journalist named Rael was told by a UFO alleged to have contacted him nearly 23 years ago. Fortean’s Sieveking said he "reserved judgement’’ as to the validity of any of the arguments put forward at the "Unconvention’’ this weekend. "We like to sit on the fence,’’ he said.

Jets assigned to Hill Air Force Base in Utah are used to transport passengers to the Air Force’s top-secret facility in Nevada commonly known as Groom Lake, according to an Air Force Times investigation. Although the planes are assigned to Hill, they spend most of their time ferrying military and industry personnel with top-secret security clearances from an unmarked terminal at McCarran Airport in Las Vegas to Groom Lake about 70 miles north of the city. The planes also fly to Tonopah Test Range near Groom Lake, a once-secret facility that is not so secret anymore. The link to Groom Lake was made after the April 3 crash of a CT-43 killed Commerce Secretary Ronald Brown and 34 others. The plane that crashed into a Croatian hillside was assigned to Ramstein Air Base near Kaiserslautern, Germany. After the crash, Air Force officials hedged on the number of planes that were in the T-43 fleet, which has been in the Air Force since the early 1970s and is used to train navigators. The aircraft are a derivation of the Boeing 737-200. Initially, Air Force officials said there were 14 planes in the fleet including the one that crashed. But after being pressed, they acknowledged another five existed. But they would only say, without elaboration, that they were located at Hill. The five planes at Hill carry the CT-43 designation, which means they have been converted to carry cargo and passengers. Another CT-43 is assigned to Howard Air Force Base in Panama and like the CT-43 that crashed in Europe primarily is used to transport dignitaries. Ten of the remaining 12 planes in the fleet, known as T-43s, are assigned to Randolph Air Force Base near San Antonio. The remaining two T-43s are assigned to Buckley Air National Guard Base near Denver and are used by the Air Force Academy for training. Several sources with knowledge of the Groom Lake operation said the five CT-43 planes assigned to Hill have been dubbed "Janet Airlines’’ because Janet is the call sign used by the planes’ pilots. Janet reportedly stands for "Plain Jane Transportation.’’ To hide their Air Force identities, the planes are painted white with a red stripe down each side and bear no service markings. Also, to obfuscate their identities, each aircraft has been reregistered as a civilian plane with a civilian registration number. Unfortunately for the Air Force, the numbers can be traced to an Air Force post office box in Clearfield, Utah, a town of 21,500 across the street from Hill’s west gate. Civilian contractors, not the Air Force, manage the shuttle from Las Vegas to Groom Lake, but the names of the contractors could not be obtained. At the same time, Air Force officials declined to be interviewed for this article and did not respond to written questions submitted April 10. Although service officials do not like to talk about the secret base, they do acknowledge that the service has facilities at Groom Lake, which has been named after a dry bed lake in the area. But officials will not say what the facilities are, nor will they disclose its official name. Over the years the site has acquired a number of nicknames other than Groom Lake including Area 51, Dreamland, Paradise Ranch, the Box, the Site and Watertown Strip. The facility also has been at the centre of an ongoing controversy for years. Numerous people, many of them amateur sleuths, have claimed the Air Force is developing secret programs there. Others, with a bit more imagination have accused the Air Force of hiding alien corpses and spacecraft at the facility. In fact, the base since the mid-1950s has been used to develop some of the U.S. military’s most advanced and secretive aircraft, including such spy planes as the U-2, the A-12 and its successor the SR-71 "Blackbird." Also, development work on the Have Blue - the precursor to the F-117 stealth fighter - was conducted at Groom Lake. The base also is rumoured to be the home of the "Aurora," allegedly a super-secret, high-speed successor to the SR-71. But according to a former Lockheed senior executive, Aurora was the code name for early B-2 Spirit bomber research and development funding. Regardless of whether a new Aurora aircraft exists, one of the five CT-43s that fly to the base - number N5294E - was named the "City of Aurora" in May 1989, according to one source. Air Force officials for years denied the facility existed. But because of a court case filed by some Groom Lake employees, service officials on Oct. 26, 1994, acknowledged its existence. Recently, however, the Air Force won a round in its bid to keep most of what goes on there secret when a federal judge dismissed employees’ claims that they had been poisoned by hazardous waste being burned in open pits at the facility.

WASHINGTON (Reuter) - The U.S. intelligence community and its traditionally secret budget appropriation would be more open to public scrutiny under reforms unveiled Tuesday at the White House. Seeking to lay to rest scandals that have raised criticism of U.S. intelligence agencies, the Clinton administration authorised Congress to make public the total appropriation for intelligence, when that figure is available. Such a figure has never before been released, though news reports have put the total at about $28 billion in recent year. The release of this budget figure is "consistent with the administration’s emphasis on openness while maintaining absolute integrity of sources and methods ... in the intelligence community,’’ said a U.S. official who spoke on condition of anonymity. The White House plan also calls for the formation of a National Imagery and Mapping Agency that would consolidate the function of five or six current agencies that process and distribute satellite intelligence. The National Reconnaissance Office, which builds and launches satellites, would remain separate. Both the House and Senate have offered their own plans to reform U.S. intelligence, and the White House plan took up many of their proposals. However, it rejected a suggestion that intelligence staff be cut by 10 percent. The White House plan called for three new high-level panels, one on foreign intelligence, a second on global crime and a third for "intelligence consumers’’—government agencies to whom intelligence should be tailored. The director of the Central Intelligence Agency would get two more deputy directors, bringing the total to three. The CIA director would also have a say in the appointment of high-level officials at other U.S. intelligence agencies, such as the National Security Agency and the Defense Intelligence Agency, a move likely to raise protests. CIA director John Deutch told reporters these reforms were aimed at strengthening U.S. intelligence and making it more efficient. He also said that much of the criticism levelled at the spy agencies has been laid to rest. "We’ve ... acknowledged some of the problems the (intelligence) community has faced ... these issues have been dealt with forthrightly,’’ Deutch said. He listed such problems as the scandal of Soviet mole Aldrich Ames, criticism of the CIA’s conduct in Guatemala in the early 1990s and what he called "poor tradecraft’’ in France, where CIA operatives tried to recruit key Cabinet aides in the French government.

Dear Mr. Bell,

I’ve followed your broadcasts over the last year or so, and have been considering whether or not to share with you and your listeners, some information related to the Roswell UFO crash.

My grandfather was a member of the Retrieval Team, sent to the crash site, just after the incident was reported. He died in 1974, but not before he had sat down with some of us, and talked about the incident.

I am currently serving in the military, and hold a Security Clearance, and do NOT wish to "go public", and risk losing my career and commission.

Nonetheless, I would like to briefly tell you what my own grandfather told me about Roswell. In fact, I enclose for your safekeeping "samples" that were in the possession of my grandfather until he died, and which I have had since his own estate was settled. As I understand it, they came from the UFO debris, and were among a large batch subsequently sent to Wright-Patterson AFB in Ohio from New Mexico.

My grandfather was able to "appropriate" them, and stated that the metallic samples, are "pure extract aluminium". You will note that they appear old & tempered, and they have been placed in tissue-paper, and in baggies for posterity.

I have had them since 1974, and after considerable thought and reflection, give them to you. Feel free to share them with any of your friends in the UFO Research Community.

I have listened to many people over the years discuss Roswell and the crash events, as reported by many who were either there or who heard about it from eyewitnesses.

The recent Roswell movie, was similar to my grandfather’s own account, but a critical element was left out, and it is that element which I would like to share.

As my granddad stated, the Team arrived at the crash site just after the AAF/USAF reported the ground zero location. They found two dead occupants, hurled free of the Disc.

A lone surviving occupant, was found within the Disc, and it was apparent, it’s left leg was broken. There was a minimal radiation contamination, and it was quicky dispersed with a water/solvent wash, and soon the occupant was dispatched for medical assistance and isolation. The bodies were sent to the Wright-Patterson AFB, for dispersal. The debris was also loaded onto three trucks which finished the on-load just before the sunset.

Granddad was part of the Team that went with the surviving occupant. The occupant communicated via telepathic means. It spoke perfect English, and communicated the following:

The Disc was a "probeship" dispatched from a "launchship" that was stationed at the dimensional gateway to the Terran Solar System, 32 light years from Terra. They had been conducting operations on Terra for over 100 years.

Another group were exploring Mars, and Io.

Each "probeship" carried a crew of three. A "launchship" had a crew of (100) one-hundred.

The Disc that crashed, had collided with a meteor in orbit of Terra, and was attempting to compensate it’s flight vector, but because of the collision, the inter-atmospheric propulsion system malfunctioned, and the occupants sent out a distress signal to their companions on Mars. The "launchship" commander made the decision to authorise an attempted soft-landing on the New Mexican desert. At the same time, the inter-atmospheric propulsion system had a massive electrical burn-out, and the Disc was soon virtually helpless.

There was another option available to the occupants, but it involved activating the Dimensional powerplant for deep space travel. However, it opens an energy vortex around the Disc for 1,500 miles in all directions. Activating the Dimensional powerplant, would have resulted in the annihilation of the states of New Mexico, Arizona, California and portions of Mexico. Possibly even further states would have been affected.

Thus, the occupants, chose to ride the ship down, and hope for the best. They literally sacrificed their lives, rather than destroy the populations within their proximity.

The Dimensional powerplant was self-destructed, and the inter-atmospheric propulsion system was also deactivated, to prevent the technology from falling into the hands of the Terrans. This was done in accordance with their standing orders in regards to any compromise with contact experiences.

Granddad spent a total of 26 weeks in the Team that examined and debriefed the lone survivor of the Roswell crash. Granddad’s affiliation with the "project" ended, when the occupant was to be transported to a long-term facility. He was placed on-board a USAF Transport aircraft, that was to be sent to Washington, D.C.

The aircraft and all aboard disappeared under mysterious and disturbing circumstances, enroute to Washington, D.C.

It may interest you that three Fighter aircraft, dispatched to investigate a distress call from the Transport experienced many electrical malfunctioning systems failures, as they entered the airspace of the transports last reported location. No crash or debris of the Transport was ever found. The Team was disbanded.

Well, I realise I have likely shocked you with this bizarre and incredible account, and seeking to remain "unknown" likely doesn’t do anything for my credibility ...eh? And the metal "samples" only will likely add to the controversy.

But, I know you will take this with a "grain of salt", and I don’t blame you, Mr. Bell.

I just hope that you can understand, my reasons and my own desire to maintain my career and commission.

I am passing through South Carolina with an Operational Readiness Mobility Exercise, and will mail this just prior to this Exercise, possibly from the Charleston area.
